August 2017 Updates

Pool Schedule: The regular pool season’s schedule ends on Monday, September 4 (Labor Day), with two additional weekends (Friday through Sunday) until September 17. However, the pool will now be open weekdays for the first full week in September and most likely the full second week of September. ENJOY! The BOD will confirm the schedule for the second week ASAP since we are still negotiating that with our pool management company. Please check the calendar for daily pool hours for September.

Pig Roast: Folks gathered on August 26 for a fabulous pig roast. The weather was perfect, music entertaining, and the food fantastic. Thanks to Paul Jameson and Jose Cervoni for coordinating the event; Larry Chadwell, Robert Liston, and Jose Cervoni for roasting the pigs; and to John & Karen May, Hollyann Morton, and Amber Dewey for setting up the tables and helping to dole out the food. Thanks to Claire Fleisch and Steve Smearman for running the front desk. Thanks to anyone else who helped who we neglected to mention. It was a wonderful event.

Beer & Wine Social: The Beer & Wine Social held on August 12 was a huge hit and enjoyed by all who attended. Swim Team: Our Piranhas tied for 2nd in Division 16. Anna Shumate and Andrew Tran advanced to All Stars (this includes every division—102 teams—in the Northern Virginia Swim League!), where they did an amazing job. Anna won freestyle and placed 2nd in breaststroke for 15-18 Girls. Andrew placed 16th in freestyle and 5th in butterfly for 13-14 boys. Congratulations to all swimmers and especially Anna and Andrew for representing Parklawn at All Stars. Sadly for our team, Anna has now left to swim for the Wolfpack at NC State. We wish her the best!
