Parklawn Pool Opening Plan – 2020

Parklawn Pool is excited to reopen! The BOD developed the following guidelines with the desire to see as many members enjoy the pool as possible while also remaining in compliance with Virginia’s Phase 2 directives and Fairfax County requirements. The Board created these pool guidelines rooted in the belief that our members will diligently monitor themselves so that everyone can enjoy themselves at the pool. Please be considerate of others! We know that conditions can change at any time and we will continually monitor and update the guidelines as needed to keep improving the experience. Thank you for partnering with us in this very different looking summer!

General Scope:

Parklawn Pool will open on Saturday, June 20. The BOD decided to:

  • Divide each day into 2-hour time-slots (90-minute swim, 30-minute cleaning and transition) except for first and last hour of each weekday (45-minute swim, 15-minute cleanup).
  • Divide the pool into 11 zones (6 lanes, 2 diving zones, 2 shallow zones, 1 baby pool zone).
  • One lap lane is dedicated at all times to lap lane swimmers.
  • Allow up to 3 non-related individuals or 1 family group to occupy each lane during a time-slot.
  • Allow a family group to occupy shallow zones, diving zones, or the baby pool during a time-slot.
  • Allow up to 50 people at a time to occupy the 11 zones in the pool area, comprised of 2 guards, 1 desk attendant, and 47 swimmers.

Time-slots:

  • Members can sign up for time-slots a week in advance. There are a limited number of slots available and we ask swimmers to respect fellow members by not signing up for an excessive number of slots within a given week. Please do not sign up for more than one slot per day. Families with over 3 members may sign up for a single lane as long as all folks in same household.
  • The pool will post new sign-up weeks each Sunday at 6 pm.

You may sign up for the following time-slots on WEEKENDS:

  • 10 am – 9 pm: All zones open.
  • 10–11 am: lap lanes are for LAP SWIM only (45-minute swim, 15-minute cleanup).
  • 11 am – 9 pm: 5 lap lanes available for either lap swimming or “recreational exercise.” Available to family groups or 3 unrelated individuals: 2-hour time-slots (90-minute swim, 30-minute cleaning and transition).
  • 11 am – 9 pm: 1 lap lane dedicated to lap lane swimming only up to 3 swimmers (90-minute swim, 30-minute cleaning and transition).
  • 10–11 am: All non-lap zones open: 1-hour time-slot (45-minute swim, 15-minute cleaning and transition). Baby pool, diving well and shallow end available only to family groups.
  • 11 am – 9 pm: All non-lap zones open: 2-hour time-slots (90-minute swim, 30-minute cleaning and transition). Baby pool, diving well and shallow end available only to family groups.

You may sign up for the following time-slots on WEEKDAYS:

  • 11 am – 12 pm and 8 – 9 pm: lap lanes are for LAP SWIM only (45-minute swim, 15-minute cleanup).
  • 11 am – 9 pm: 1 lap lane dedicated to lap lane swimming only up to 3 swimmers (90-minute swim, 30-minute cleaning and transition).

Membership Costs and Pool Finances:

If You Choose to Use the Pool This Season

Because of the reduced capacity and delayed opening of the pool this season, the BOD voted to reduce swim fees by the same percentage that our Pool Management Company (AquaSafe) reduced our pool management fee in our revised contract to 60% of the original contract amount. So members who use the pool this year will pay 60% of their rate this year and the BOD will roll over 40% to next year, barring unforeseen financial circumstances.  However, this cost may decrease if the pool must revert to Phase 1 or worse (reduce guards) or increase if the pool moves to Phase 3 (increase guards). Members must pay 100% of this year’s fee before using the pool. We will credit a percentage of this year’s fee to your account next year.

If You Choose to Not Use the Pool This Season

Unless the pool incurs significant unforeseen costs this season, the pool will roll forward 100% of membership payments for memberships that DO NOT use the pool this summer.

We look forward to seeing you at the pool very soon!
