A Letter from the Pool President, June 12, 2020

All: The Board of Directors met on 6/10/20 and voted to open the pool as soon as possible. We approved a revised contract with our pool management company. Now they are responsible for getting us open. The tentative date they provided is 6/20/20 though they are still struggling to identify lifeguard staffing. In the interim I’ve asked them to make the pool ready to open so that we can at least begin other programs where we provide our own lifeguards (Master’s swim for example). The BOD must determine how to manage the pool while operating under COVID Phase 2 restrictions (posted in my previous [...]

A Letter from the Pool President, June 9, 2020

All: We’ve just heard that Northern Virginia is allowed to enter phase 2 of coronavirus recovery this Friday, June 12. The Board of Directors is meeting on Wednesday, June 10, to decide whether to open the pool this season and what that would look like. If the BOD opts to open the pool, we will need to set up a reservation process for membership to use the facility in the capacity mandated by government (shown below). I will post a follow-up after the BOD meets Wednesday. Phase 2 Swimming Pool Guidelines BACKGROUND The Board of Directors met 5/27/20 to review [...]

*updated on May 28, 2021

This year, in accordance with CDC, state and county recommendations, the current plan for COVID operations at Parklawn Pool is as follows:

  • The facilities will return to an open basis with no reservations needed for swimming. The tables and seating areas will be open seating as well.
  • As always, please be responsible and do not come to the pool if you have experienced any COVID symptoms recently.
  • If you’re fully vaccinated (two weeks after final dose), masks are not required. We ask that non-vaccinated individuals (including children) please wear masks in accordance with CDC guidance when inside pool buildings, when interacting with staff and volunteers (front desk and snack bar), and when unable to maintain social distance from other non-vaccinated individuals.
  • The pool is waiting for the first two weeks or until further positive guidance from state and local officials occurs before moving forward with allowing pool parties. You may still make party requests for this season that the pool will honor once/if the county and state fully ease restrictions.
  • Guests are allowed; regular guest pass policies apply.
  • All must follow current CDC, state and local guidelines.
These rules are in addition to the established rules for the pool, which have not changed. We expect all members to act responsibly and with common sense as far as general COVID behavior and interacting with each other. These rules are subject to change upon notice from the BOD based on changing local or CDC guidelines, as well as any abuse of the spirit of the rules.
