POWER BOOSTERS NEEDED TO SUPPORT OUR SWIM TEAM! 💪
GREAT things happen when the Parklawn Piranhas swim team parents and community supporters get involved! Like the Piranha Power Boosters Club. Since its founding in 2015, the Boosters have raised money to cover a host of annual swim team expenses such as Clerk of Course benches, lane lines and wheel, a new starter, team swim caps, team T-shirts, dryland mats, kickboards, and more. For our 2019 season, our fabulous Boosters paid for the new water misters, providing much-needed cooling relief for the dog-day meets of July; timer boards and flags; dumbbells for swim-team practices; T-shirts and caps; and GoPros for a
range of team videotaping needs. Please donate today via PayPal, http://bit.ly/2qdR3Jo, or give a check to Sipho or Nicole Molife written out to “Piranha Power Boosters Club.” Thank you in advance for supporting our team. Your efforts are very appreciated.

OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK ARE… Josiah Aberra and Camille Sonn. Both have worked hard, had big swims, and displayed good sportsmanship. Congratulations, Josiah and Camille!

YOU SURVIVED THE SUMMER… as a Parklawn Piranha 😊
Special thanks to the Cervoni and Corbett families for their contributions to the “How to Survive the Summer as a Parklawn Piranha.”
Great news, you survived your year as a Parklawn Piranha (we told you it wasn’t just about your kid(s)). As the calendar turns to August and we think about heading to the beach and getting the kids back to school, we already start to miss our Friday Grill nights (now we’re stuck thinking of the dinner plan… anyone up for burgers??). We know you can’t wait
to do it all again next year!!! In case you start to wonder about what next summer holds, check out TeamSnap for the spoilers: the dates of the meets, picture day and swimsuit sales are already loaded in TeamSnap (and we know you know how to use it). Gone are the excuses of years past—you know to plan your vacation in August!!! Remind your best
buddy from the team, as the word must be getting out, we had great attendance at A-meets and it shows in our scores this year. Don’t hang up the goggles and flip flops quite yet—we hope to see you at Winter SWIM!

A-Meet, RC and Divisionals Results Available Online. Overall team scores www.mynvsl.com/standings) and Division 15 results (www.mynvsl.com/schedules?year=2019&div=15&date=) are posted week to week on the NVSL website. We also post them on TeamSnap.

August Swim Camp Opportunity. Interested in enrolling your child in a three-day swim camp, one led by a former Olympian? More information and sign-up details can be found at this link: fitterandfaster.com/swim-clinics/2019-summer-swim-camp-series-arlington-va/

Winter Swim. We encourage all of our Piranhas to keep swimming in the off-season! There are lots of opportunities to swim with club programs in Northern Virginia—feel free to reach out to our coaches to discuss club options. Our swim team also offers a clinic for swim team members. The clinic focuses on stroke development (free, back, breast, and fly), turns and starts. The clinic will start in October and run through May. We plan on running winter swim clinic on Sunday afternoons approximately between approximately 2:30 p.m./3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., subject to lane availability and interest level. Registration forms are available on TeamSnap. Registration and payment is due September 1.

INDIVIDUAL AND SWIM TEAM PHOTOS & TROPHIES
If you can’t make it to the banquet, consider asking another swim team family to pick up your items at the banquet. Otherwise, your swimmer’s trophies will be in the team room on Monday, July 29. Please come and pick up your trophies, ribbons, and/or photo orders as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more likely they will go missing!

TEAM FEEDBACK
After the banquet, we will publish a SurveyMonkey tool to solicit feedback from swim team families. Parents, please solicit your swimmers’ feedback on pep rallies, etc. We want to hear from our swimmers as well as their parents.

DIVISION 14 – HERE WE COME
We are likely to be seeded in Division 14 next year, which will be very competitive for our team. We encourage all of our swimmers to stay in the water, improving their strokes, getting stronger, working on those starts and turns. If your swimmer loves swim team and would like to be swimming A-meets, swimming consistently (2 days a week) in the off-season will be important. The time to register for winter swim programs is now; these programs fill up quickly. Teams in Division 14 are more likely to fill their lanes every Saturday with their top swimmers; getting first or second place wins will be more difficult (unless our swimmers are consistently swimming in the off-season and not going on vacation during swimmer swim season). Division 14 likely will be comprised of teams new to Parklawn, and we will need
to up our game regarding NVSL rules and officiating and sportsmanship. Parents, even if you do not want to do S&T at a meet, higher divisions, for example, expect their relay-take off judges to be certified as S&T.
